5chan was one of the image boards spawned to replace 4chan when it went down for its monthly "boohoos no money gone 4evah". 5chan actually required people to use a free signup and thus post under a name, taking away everyone's right to be truly Anonymous to each other. The 4chan /b/tards put up with not being able to call anyone a fucktard with impunity until 4chan came back up, at which point they avenged themselves on a board they never had to go to in the first place with DDOS and spam attacks. 5chan was already crumbling due to this, before the guy running it decided to have an enormous drama meltdown over something entirely unrelated and shut down the board.

5chan is today remembered as a chanboard that was remarkably more polite and had a lot less drama than other chanboards, and is justifiably hated because of this.
